The Edge of the World

The ocean clapped across the rocks
and exploded into the air
We played chicken with the tides,
saying we didn't care whether they
ate us
or not

and that we'd go down fighting
and fucking
and that it would be the death of our lives.

Then the water charged toward us,
jaws wide open,
foaming at the lips

like a graceful and rabid monster;
And we laughed,
despite how scared we really were.

The Edge of the World: REPRISE (The Lighthouse)

You held my body against your body
at the edge of the world,
as the ocean's teeth slammed against the rocks--
biting at us,
and shattering to pieces,
like salivated glass spray

We dared the tides to swallow us whole,
as the sun burned its longing into our skin
And the white lighthouse,
lined in red,
showed us the way

and you carried me.

Venus and the Moon

If you wished upon a star,

what would you wish for

(that you wanted enough

to will it towards you),

if not for love?

Chart rulers always get their way.
